Singer Kelis has ruled out any possibility of reuniting with her ex-husband, rapper Nas, amid ongoing financial disputes.
Responding to fans on social media, Kelis made it clear that their relationship, which ended over a decade ago, will not be rekindled.
“Stop, it was 15 years ago. Do you want your ex from almost 2 decades ago?”
Kelis and Nas’ relationship
Kelis and Nas divorced in 2010 after a seven-year marriage and have had a notably acrimonious split. The singer has previously accused Nas of physical abuse during their marriage, which Nas has publicly denied.
Their relationship has been scrutinised, with both parties sharing details of their struggles and disagreements.
The former couple’s divorce was followed by a bitter custody battle over their son, Knight Jones, which was only resolved in 2018.
Despite the resolution, tensions have remained high, with recent social media exchanges bringing financial issues to the forefront.
Kelis’s comments came after a fan suggested that she and the rapper should consider reuniting. She dismissed the idea, stating that too much time had passed and questioning the fan’s desire to reconnect with a long-ago ex.
Kelis claims the rapper owes her
Another social media user’s remark about Nas’s finances prompted Kelis to assert that it is Nas who owes her money, not the other way around.
Legal proceedings have been related to the financial dispute between Kelis and Nas. The dispute has primarily revolved around child support for their son, Knight.
Nas reportedly disclosed his income as part of the child support battle, revealing a monthly income of $175,000 and more than $8.3 million in his bank account.
Kelis has been seeking more money to support their son, and the legal documents were filed to show the judge the extent of Nas’s financial responsibilities.
The couple’s divorce was finalized in 2010, and since then, there have been ongoing discussions and legal actions regarding financial support. At one point, Nas was ordered to pay around $51,000 a month in spousal and child support, an increase from an initial $40,0002.
However, they reportedly settled their custody dispute, agreeing on a schedule allowing him to spend time with their son.
