87-year-old American actor, producer, and narrator, Morgan Freeman has taken a swipe at a TikTok user who purportedly posed as his relative with the help of AI.
The Oscar winner was alerted to a TikTok creator posing as his niece and using artificial intelligence to mimic his voice, which is among the most identifiable in Hollywood.
An AI-generated rendition of Freeman’s voice facetiously narrated the influencer’s day in the vlog which went viral after it tricked some users on X. “Imagine my surprise when I was charged for a yacht. Basically, she embezzled,” the voice-over said, asking for the influencer’s credit card to book what she claimed was a small activity for her birthday.
In a social media post on Friday, Morgan Freeman—whose unusually calming voice has made him much sought-after for movie narrations—thanked his followers for pointing out that the voice was fake.
He stated, “I am so grateful to my amazing fans for being vigilant and supporting me in calling out the unauthorized use of an artificial intelligence voice impersonating me.”
“Your dedication helps authenticity and integrity remain paramount. Grateful. #AI #scam #imitation #IdentityProtection.”
The influencer who created the video responded to Freeman’s comments and the ensuing media exposure on Sunday, looking visibly shocked. She jokingly said in another TikTok video,
“I thought it was very obvious that this was a joke, and now Uncle Mo is upset with me. I sincerely apologize if anyone from his team is watching. I really just thought it was funny.”
Morgan Freeman is only one of several famous people in Hollywood whose voices have been artificially recreated. An AI-generated video of Freeman was also produced in 2022 by a fake artist.
For more than 50 years, Morgan Freeman has been a familiar name in Hollywood.
Morgan has a long and varied career. He has played roles in action movies, comedies, and serious dramas.
In addition to various commercials, Morgan has provided the voice for documentaries such as the Oscar-winning March of the Penguins and the more contemporary narrations of the nature shows Life on Our Planet and Our Universe.
Similarly, actress Scarlett Johansson also expressed how shocked and “angered” she was earlier this year when she found out one of the AI voices in ChatGPT sounded like her own.
