Top star Lauryn Hill explained her decision to cancel the 2024 North American tour dates of her “Miseducation” trip with the Fugees.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 7, the singer confirmed that low ticket sales informed the move but assured fans that her planned United Kingdom and Europe tour dates would still happen as planned.
“With difficulty, the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates. The shows in the UK and Europe are moving forward as planned,” she said.
She added that sensationalism in the media over last year’s tour postponement “seemingly affected” ticket sales for the North American leg of the tour.”
The Ready or Not hitmaker was supposed to perform in North America with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel of the Fugees starting Friday, August 9, 2024.
The upcoming shows in the UK and Europe, to be held as part of the tour celebrating her 1999 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, will be the first time the celebration goes to that territory.
“Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time…”Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am,” the statement added.
The 49-year-old thanked her fans, saying she will “push through all kinds of resistance” to put together an experience that will “mean something” to everybody.
“I love being able to bring these performances to you…”I appreciate your understanding. We’re looking forward to performing at the shows in the UK and Europe in October — and for our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force…” the statement added.
Early this week, reports indicated that Lauryn Hill and the Fugees “quietly canceled the tour” with ticket holders receiving messages from Live Nation confirming the cancellation and a refund.
