Method Man has taken a step back from this year’s edition of Hot 97’s Summer Jam.
Hot 97 shared some of the festival’s highlights on Instagram on Sunday and among them is a video of Method Man and Redman performing their 1999 joint track “Da Rockwilder” live over the weekend.
Method Man then entered the comments section to pen down his opinion about a “generation gap” in the crowd.
Which, according to him, is now “just too wide for me.” He then declared at the end of the remarks that he would “never” perform at Summer Jam again.
“Not our kind of crowd at all. Once again, thank you to Pete and Ebro, as well as New York and the entire tri-state region that attended the event. I got love for you guys. But never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me. #nevercomingback.”
Some Instagram users defended Method Man after he made these remarks; one user criticized Summer Jam for being “for one-hit wonders, not legends.”
The user commented, “I wish the rest of our generation [would] show up at this show.”
“@hot97 Summer Jam is meant for one-hit wonders rather than LEGENDS, as sadly, the younger generation doesn’t give a damn about us. Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, and so on.”
Others shared their thoughts on social media on the Summer Jam lineup and the evolution of being a top hip-hop event.
The following generation will find it hard to understand the extent of Hot 97’s Summer Jam’s popularity at one point. It didn’t matter how old you were. It was significant.
Highlights from the 2024 Hot 97’s Summer Jam on June 3rd at the UBS Arena on Long Island included performances by emerging artists including Cash Cobain, Davido, Tata, and Jenn Carter, in addition to acts like Gunna, Sexyy Red, and Doja Cat.
