Megan Thee Stallion delivered on her promise as she premiered her much-anticipated project early this week at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Pictures from the event, which appeared online, showed the hitmaker looking radiant in a purple outfit on the red carpet, winning the admiration of her fans.
She also posed with the director of the project, Nneka Onuorah, who came in her own style.
The film Megan: In Her Own Words tells the behind-the-scenes story of the Cobra singer’s rise to fame. It also provides some insight into her life at the time the Tory Lanez shooting case was being heard in court.
In her speech at the premiere, Megan thanked her fans and her parents for their unflinching support.
“…I want to thank each and every one of you for coming to the premiere of my documentary. Your support means the world to me. And this process has been years in the making,” she stated.
She added that though her mother had warned her not to talk about herself, she (Megan) felt it was the right moment to let the world hear her story. The superstar also praised the documentary team.
“To have somebody follow you around all day, every day, and recording your most intimate moments, even when you don’t want them to, has been such an insane experience,” she said, praising Onuorah, the director.
The rapper also explained her decision to make the documentary, saying, “I started to watch a lot of people dehumanize me, and a lot of people were trying to take control of my narrative and tell my story, so that’s why I even agreed to do the documentary in the first place.”
Announcing the collaboration early this month, the director of the film, Nneka Onuorah, thanked partners including Amazon MGM Studios, Roc Nation, and TIME Studios, emphasizing that Megan’s story needs to be heard.
“Her raw and beautiful spirit shines through in the film. She is a champion for all women who deserve their truth to be heard,” she said about Megan.
According to producers, the documentary highlights, among other things, the “grief, success, fame” of the songstress, who had dealt with losing her mother, being a victim of gun violence, and other circumstances but managed to weather the storm.
