Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill seems tired of being an American and now wants to switch nationalities. He claims the United States does not favour black men, hence the thought of becoming a Ghanaian.
“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders,” he wrote on his X (Twitter) timeline on Wednesday, March 4, 2024. Before making this post, he also spoke about getting dual citizenship in Africa if permitted.
His new tweet about Ghana attracted mixed reactions, as some users suggested he chose Nigeria, Kenya, or Uganda instead. A few respondents indicated they were willing to switch places with Meek Mill.
Other followers thought he should discard the idea since Ghana was tightening her grip on people in the LGBTQI community. Ghana’s Parliament recently passed a bill prohibiting LGBTQI and related activities, but the proposal has yet to receive endorsement from the President.
“Is it because of the President’s daughter? If it is, then once your citizenship changes to Ghanaian, she will leave you. Know this, know peace,” a follower joked.
“Ghana’s rich history and culture make it an appealing choice. Best wishes on your journey towards Ghanaian citizenship,” another added.
However, the All Eyes on You composer seems to take pride in controversy. Sometime last year, he tweeted asking how African people listened to his music since they did not have Spotify.
Meek Mill was also criticised in Ghana when he gained access to the seat of the president (Flagstaff House) to shoot a hip-hop video, which some netizens thought was inappropriate.
Recently, he made headlines with his latest album, Too Good To Be True, and said he was launching his weed brand to accompany his music.
“Of course, I’m starting a weed strand to go along with the new album!” he wrote in a caption on his Instagram with a fire emoji, but he did not disclose the name of the supposed weed brand.
