American rapper, Meek Mill, has expressed his desire to acquire Ghanaian citizenship, amidst relentless cyberbullying over his sexuality.
The Philadelphia-born artist has been a target of online trolls, who have been unyielding in their mockery.
“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!” Meek shared on X (Twitter).
His statement reflects a growing sentiment among African-American celebrities who are exploring their African roots and seeking dual citizenship. “Africa don’t got this sh*t I’m getting dual citizenship if they let me!” he added.

Meek’s declaration comes in the wake of his announcement that he had hired private investigators to probe the “cyber attacks” he’s been facing online. The move indicates the severity of the situation and the toll it’s taking on the rapper.
The cyberbullying seems to have pushed Meek to consider a life outside America, where he believes the system is designed to bring down black men who refuse to conform. His interest in Ghana is not surprising, given the West African nation’s reputation as a beacon of peace and its welcoming stance towards the African diaspora.
Ghana, known for its rich culture and history, has been a preferred destination for African Americans seeking to connect with their roots. The country’s “Year of Return” initiative in 2019 marked 400 years since the first enslaved Africans arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, and saw an influx of African Americans, including several celebrities.
While Meek’s fans in Ghana would undoubtedly welcome his decision, it remains to be seen whether his move will inspire other African-American celebrities to consider a similar path.

Instead, he wanted to know which African artist he should collaborate with for a whole album.
Taking to Twitter/X, the rapper asked for a name he should make an entire album with – and promised he could get it done in just two weeks.
