Matt Uzzle, a prominent figure in the popular daytime talk shows The Wendy Williams’s Show and The Sherri Talk Show, who was allegedly under investigation for his budgetary oversight, has passed away.
On February 13, Matt Uzzle, 50, was discovered dead at his Piermont, New York home during a police welfare check. According to online sources, the death appears to be suicide.
Before Sherri Shepherd took over the syndicated slot with her show, Uzzle was the executive in charge of production for The Wendy Williams’s Show.
The show’s mother company, Debmar-Mercury, reportedly questioned Uzzle after learning that the program hadn’t paid rent at Chelsea Studios in New York since September. As a result, the company reportedly hired Morgan Lewis, a law firm, to assist with investigations.
Matt Uzzle’s primary job was to manage production and oversee the budget at Sherri, and according to online sources, there had been recent complaints about issues with petty cash in several departments of which Uzzle reportedly told superiors that he needed a few days to organize his paperwork after being confronted about the budget problems.
After he wasn’t heard from for several days, he was found dead by police performing a welfare check in Piermont. Public records show that Uzzle lived in a $782,000 estimated-value condo in Piermont.
In addition to his credits with The Wendy Williams Show, Matt Uzzle was a nominee for a daytime Emmy in 2016 for his work on The Montel Williams Show and Maury. Matt served as the executive in charge of production for Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, which debuted in September 2022 and took The Wendy Williams Show’s place.
For a significant duration of the last season, Shepherd served as Wendy’s stand-in host after she suffered a series of health problems. It comes as no surprise, then, that Sherri was shot in the same studio as The Wendy Williams Show with a modified set, and that many of Williams’ employees followed Shepherd to the new show.
Citing ongoing investigation as their reason, police declined to comment on the case. Family members have been sending condolences, and Sherri herself did a tribute after an episode this month.
