Comedian Martin Lawrence, appearing at a recent show, took the opportunity to once again address rumors about his health.
On Friday, August 30, he took his tour dubbed: Y’all Know What It Is to Detroit, where he entertained his followers and debunked assertions that he had been down with a stroke.
His lively performance, once again, justified his position as one of the best comedians of his generation.
“Motherf—kers talking about I had a stroke…Does this look like a mother—ker that had a stroke? He joked as he leaped across the stage and made some dance moves.
Despite his attempt to explain, some fans still had reservations, saying Martin did not want to confirm the speculations about his health.
“He doesn’t want to come off weak. He doesn’t even sound like himself either,” a fan wrote with others making similar comment about his speech, which they described as “slow.” However, some other followers defended Lawrence.
Concerns about Lawrence’s health first came up in May 2023 and became topical at the 2024 Emmy Awards in January, where he somewhat had difficulty reading the teleprompter during the ceremony.
There were also times when fans were concerned about the 59-year-old finding challenges in his attempt to answer questions during interviews for the movie ‘Bad Boys: Ride for Die.‘ The Big Momma’s House star had always maintained he was in good shape.
When asked about his health in previous interviews, he stated: “I’m fine…I’m in God’s hands. I’m blessed, you know. I’m all good. No need for people to be concerned.”
“I’m glad to be waking up every day and everything…I’m all good…I’m healthy as hell. Stop the rumors! He was quoted saying.
In July this year, Martin touched on the relationship between his daughter, Jasmin, and Eddie Murphy’s son, Eric.
He laughed and said he and Eddie had yet to discuss their children’s relationship when he was asked if the couple would produce “some kind of comedy super-baby together,” during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2022.
“We kind of just stay out of their business and let them do their own thing and respect their thing,” he stated.
