A Michigan man who twice broke into Eminem’s home has been found guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking.

The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, May 7, following a swift trial in Macomb County that saw the rapper himself take the witness stand.

The man behind the break-ins, 32-year-old Matthew David Hughes, was arrested last August, just days after unlawfully entering Eminem’s property for the second time.

He was taken into custody at a nearby Walmart and has remained behind bars since, unable to meet the $500,000 bond set by the court.

Hughes had already made headlines in 2020 when he entered the rapper’s Clinton Township home and allegedly startled Eminem in the middle of the night.

Authorities said he admitted he had plans to harm the rap star, prompting a plea deal that led to five years of probation. But just months later, Hughes was back behind bars for violating that probation following a separate assault case.

After serving time, he was paroled in May 2024. By August, he was once again caught on Eminem’s property, reigniting concerns about the safety of the artist and his family.

This latest break-in, unlike the previous one, did not involve a direct encounter with Eminem, but it was serious enough to warrant criminal charges.

Hughes had previously been ordered by the court to stay away from the rapper, legally known as Marshall Bruce Mathers.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 17. If convicted to the fullest extent, Hughes could face a lengthy prison term.

Court records also show that Hughes had a troubling history with the rapper, including a 2019 incident where he was discovered sleeping in the guesthouse of a home Eminem once owned in Rochester Hills.

His repeated actions over the years paint the picture of a dangerous obsession, eerily reminiscent of the storyline from Eminem’s 2000 hit, ‘Stan’.
