It nearly appeared like a death sentence when “Magic” Johnson revealed in 1991 that he was HIV positive. But, however,he understood that he would be alright with the aid of modern medicine, his wife’s encouragement, and numerous trips to the doctor.
While attending Cedric the Entertainer and Toni Braxton’s Love & Laughter event at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on April 27, the 64-year-old former basketball star is to have told PEOPLE’s magazine at the event that, “Every time I go to the doctor and my T-cell count is off the charts, that’s when I know I’m good.”
Even though Magic Johnson is no longer a professional athlete, he wakes up at four in the morning every day to maintain his condition.
The legendary Los Angeles Lakers player claimed that maintaining his current physical state has greatly aided him.
“I work out for two hours after stretching. Then, since I work in an office all day, it’s been a blessing as long as I can keep going at that pace, he said. “I’ve done my share, the medication has done its share, and my wife continues to monitor me to make sure I’m doing my share.”
Earlier in the 1990s, Magic made public his medical diagnosis at a news conference.
He told the news outlet that he is physically thriving as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and extremely successful businessman. These days, he advocates for HIV/AIDS prevention.
Magic Johnson attended Cedric and Braxton’s Vegas residency show over the weekend, and Cedric’s 60th birthday was also celebrated during the evening.
“Johnson described his friend as someone who “just keeps you laughing.” It seems like you could be chatting away happily for a while, and then he starts making jokes about it and throws you to the ground. He is larger than life and hasn’t changed.
“He’s real, genuine, and organic,” he continued. For more than 20 years, Johnson and his wife, Cookie Johnson, have been close to Cecil and his wife, Lorna Wells.
