On Saturday night, veteran and award-winning singer Madonna performed for free in Rio de Janeiro, to a massive crowd of music lovers who trooped to enjoy good music and top stagecraft at Brazil’s well-known Copacabana beach.
“Rio, here we are in the most beautiful place in the world,” Madonna stated while on stage.
The 65-year-old’s Celebration Tour, which honoured her 40 years in music, came to an end with this performance that brought out over 1.5 million people to party with her.
Hours before the American diva arrived, large crowds of fans could be seen dancing to Madonna’s songs that were being played over speakers on the stage. With several stage and costume changes as well as light displays, Madonna dazzled the crowd in what many have dubbed a historic performance.
Madonna treated her fans to some of her all-time hits, including Nothing Really Matters, Like a Prayer and Vogue, and was joined on stage at one point by Brazilian singer Anitta.
It can be recalled that Madonna was recently in the news after she suffered a serious mishap on stage during her show at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.
In various fan-captured videos, Madonna was performing her 1987 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single Open Your Heart on her second night of the Celebration Tour in the Emerald City when her act was interrupted briefly.
While the seven-time Grammy winner was seated in a chair and singing to a camera, a male dancer in stiletto heels began to tilt her seat back and pushed her across the stage while jogging. But he slipped and fell, taking Madonna down with him.
The award-winning singer moves on, rolling over to continue her performance before smiling and openly giggling at the mishap.
The superstar launched her Celebration Tour in January 2023. The global tour, which commemorates her four decades of music, was originally scheduled to begin in July of that year.
Madonna, on the other hand, was hospitalised during the summer owing to a “serious bacterial infection” and had to postpone her tour. The delayed tour kicked out with a series of sold-out gigs in London’s O2 Arena and is scheduled to conclude in late April with five shows in Mexico City.
