Singer Lizzo is set to portray Rock ‘N’ Roll legend Rosetta Tharpe in an upcoming biopic, ‘Rosetta,’ by Amazon MGM Studios.

Rosetta Tharpe was a gospel singer and one of the first to appeal to rock n’ roll and R&B audiences.

The project is currently in development with Lizzo, Kevin Beisler, Significant Productions’ Nina Yang Bongiovi, and Forest Whitaker producing.

With Natalie Chaidez and Kwynn Perry writing the screenplay.

Rosetta Tharpe played an important role in developing rock n’ roll. Her influence on the genre spans decades and includes Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, and countless others.

The upcoming biopic is inspired by true events and hopes to capture a pivotal period in the legend’s life.

From her groundbreaking innovation, defiant passion, and secret love.

As Rosetta shatters musical boundaries with her signature guitar sound, she finds herself navigating societal constraints, concealing her love for another woman, and ultimately transforming a wedding into one of the most legendary concerts in history: the first stadium show.

Although Lizzo is a talented artist, the singer starred in the crime dramedy Hustlers alongside Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Cardi B in 2019.

Lizzo was also the focus of the 2022 HBO Max documentary Love, Lizzo, which provided an intimate look into her life and career.

For this project, the four-time Grammy award winner Lizzo is represented by Full Stop Management, Natalie Chaidez is represented by CAA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer et al.

While Kwynn Perry is represented by Jackoway Austen, Tyerman Wertheimer et al., UTA, and Grubman, Shire Meiselas & Sacks. Significant is also represented by Cohen Gardner LLP.
