Chicago rapper Lil Reese, whose real name is Tavares Taylor, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of aggravated assault against a family member.
According to newly surfaced police records, the sentence was handed down on October 16 in Harris County, Texas.
The conviction stems from an incident on March 9, 2022, though details surrounding the attack remain unclear. Reese was arrested nearly two months later, in May of that year, and held on a $60,000 bond. His projected release date is February 6, 2029, but he could become eligible for parole as early as August 2026.
The 31-year-old rapper, known for his ties to the Chicago drill music scene, has faced numerous legal troubles recently. Most recently, he was arrested in September for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend at a Houston strip club. Authorities reported that Reese attempted to kiss the woman multiple times in the early hours of the morning. When she rejected his advances, he reportedly became violent, punching her in the face and strangling her until witnesses intervened.
Police noted visible injuries on the woman, who stated she feared for her life during the attack. Reese was subsequently arrested on September 29 and held without bond. This incident came just weeks after another serious accusation against him was dismissed by a judge.
While that case, involving allegations of sexual assault did not move forward, Reese’s recent legal history has further complicated his public image. His September arrest followed years of contentious incidents, including a physical altercation with a group of women in Chicago, captured on video in October 2023.
Despite his significant contributions to the drill music genre, Reese’s legal challenges have overshadowed his career. His latest prison sentence signals a critical juncture in his troubled trajectory, marking another chapter in a series of public controversies and legal battles.
