Young rapper Lil Purk might have had a promising career ahead of him but it seems he will not realise the full potential of his talent.
The 16-year-old, real name Jamal Jones, has been found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a November 2022 double murder.
Atlanta-based fledgling artist was convicted Friday, December 15, 2023, according to 11AliveNews.
He was on trial for his role in a shooting that took the lives of 12-year-old Zyion Charles and 15-year-old Cameron Jackson. Four others were also injured during the violent incident.
Lil Purk apologises after sentence
Shortly after receiving his 20-year sentence, Lil Purk posted a message, apologizing to his fans and the victims’ families, maintaining his innocence.
“To all my family and fans I would like to sincerely apologize to y’all and to all the younger generation looking up to me,” Purk wrote on his Instagram Stories soon after his ruling. “Let me and my situation be a lesson learned for our whole generation everything not what it seem and I’m still pleading my innocence I love you lil hot and to the families hurt by this situation forgive me also still keeping faith alive 43va.”
Tragedy for Atlanta Hip-Hop community
The deaths of the two adolescents represent a tragic loss for the Atlanta hip-hop community that Purk aimed to represent.
While proclaiming his blamelessness, his social media statement suggests the rapper accepts the consequences of his alleged actions that fateful November night.
Now facing two decades of imprisonment, the promising young musician’s budding career has met an abrupt halt.
As the case concludes, the fatal shooting remains a chilling reminder of gun violence’s impact on Atlanta’s youth and Hip-Hop landscape.
Suspected Tupac killer pleads not guilty
Meanwhile, Duane Keith Davis known by some as “Keffe D,” has pleaded not guilty in a Las Vegas Court after he was arrested weeks ago in connection with Tupac Shakur’s death.
The 60-year-old former Compton gang member made his stance in the case clear on Thursday which happened to be his third scheduled arraignment on a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon in a gang-related homicide.
According to CNN, Davis was accused of masterminding the September 1996 shooting that led to the untimely demise of Tupac Shakur.
