Killer Mike Sues Security Companies That Arrested Him At 2024 Grammys

Rapper Killer Mike has reportedly filed a lawsuit against two private security companies involved in his arrest at the 2024 Grammys.

The rapper was said to have been detained during the ceremony last year after he allegedly pushed a security guard when he was denied reentry to the Peacock Arena.

His lawsuit blames the security companies for giving their employees “too much” authority to arrest citizens. He is making claims for “physical damages, emotional distress, and reputational damage.”

Reports indicate Mike was arrested during the ceremony and released after it concluded. That night, he was slated to present an award but was reportedly held in a jail cell into the following morning.

Notwithstanding, he won awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance for the compilation titled Michael released in 2023.

Born Michael Santiago Render in April 1975, he is better known by his stage name Killer Mike. Also a political activist, he made his recording debut on Outkast’s fourth album, Stankonia (2000).

He signed with Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon Records (known then as Aquemini Records) and Columbia Records to release his debut studio album Monster in 2003, reaching number ten on the Billboard 200.

Records indicate he parted ways with the label and released two albums—I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind in 2006 and I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II in (2008). He later signed with T.I.’s Grand Hustle to release his fourth album, Pledge (2011).

Beyond music, she has been an advocate against social inequality, police brutality, and systemic racism and has lectured about similar issues at colleges and universities.

He is known as a visible and vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders’ 2016 U.S. presidential campaign and supported Sanders once more in his 2020 presidential campaign. He has appeared in films such as Idlewild, Baby Driver, ATL, and America: The Motion Picture.
