Kid Cudi and Kanye West have had a tumultuous relationship over the years, but the two rappers have finally buried the hatchet and rekindled their friendship.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cudi revealed what led to their reconciliation and how he feels about Kanye now.
Cudi and Kanye first met in 2006, when Cudi was an aspiring artist and Kanye was a superstar producer. Kanye signed Cudi to his G.O.O.D. Music label in 2008 and helped him launch his career with hits like Day ‘n’ Nite and Pursuit of Happiness. The two also collaborated on several songs, such as Erase Me, Gorgeous, All of the Lights, and Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.
However, their relationship soured in 2016, when Cudi called out Kanye and other rappers on Twitter for being fake and not supporting him. Kanye responded by ranting on stage and dissing Cudi, calling him “disrespectful” and “ungrateful”.
The feud continued in 2022, when Cudi sided with Pete Davidson, who was dating Kanye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian, and called Kanye a “dinosaur” in the music industry. Cudi also vowed to never work with Kanye again and said he was unhappy with his feature on Kanye’s album Yeezus.
But things changed in 2023, when Kanye reached out to Cudi and apologized for his past behavior. Cudi told Lowe that he was surprised and touched by Kanye’s gesture, as he knew that Kanye was not good at saying sorry.
Cudi said that he accepted Kanye’s apology and forgave him, because he realized that Kanye was his “brother” and that he had a huge impact on his life and career.
He added that he understood that Kanye was going through a lot of personal and professional challenges, and that he was “learning and growing” as a person.
