Pop Star, Katy Perry, has been confirmed as headline performer at the grand finale of this year’s Australian Football League (AFL) scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024.

The Woman’s World singer is to entertain about 100,000 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the said date before the game begins. Other artistes, whose names are yet to be confirmed, are also expected to turn up at the event.

In a statement on Instagram, Katy Perry expressed excitement about returning to Australia to perform in front of a crowd which is described as “the loudest” in the world.

Last month, the celebrated singer-songwriter announced her return to music with the brand new single Woman’s World.

The song premiered on July 11, 2024, with a music video the following day. Before this, the Roar hitmaker released a cover art of the single posing in a white bikini with long robotic boots on her legs.

Woman’s World is the lead single of her upcoming 143 album, which she began teasing months ago. Early in July, she previewed some songs from the album, telling her fans to look out for “a lot of music” in the future.

Songs on the new compilation include I’m His, He’s Mine, Gimme Gimme (featuring) 21 Savage, and another titled Nirvana. Currently available for pre-order, the album will be released on September 20 this year.

In December last year, the award-winning performer said she was preparing her “most personal” project yet in 2024.

“If you can’t love me in my Witness or Smile era, then you can’t love me in my KP6 era,” she told an audience while performing during her Las Vegas residency last year.

Smile was Kate Perry’s sixth studio album released in August 2020, which she described as her “journey towards the light, with stories of resilience, hope, and love”.

The album received mixed reviews from music critics, who thought the album was one of Perry’s “solid efforts” but criticized its “familiar lyrics and production.”
