Rap superstar Kanye West has been accused of punching a man for allegedly sexually assaulting his wife, Bianca Censori.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, is currently under police investigation, with Kanye named as the suspect in a battery report.
According to Billboard, the altercation ensued after the man reportedly touched Censori inappropriately. Despite the severity of the situation, no medical attention was required for any of the parties involved.
Initial reports suggested that the man had “pushed or grabbed” Censori. However, representatives for West have since stated that such descriptions grossly underestimate the severity of the incident, asserting that Censori was physically assaulted. As of now, Censori has not filed a sexual assault claim, and West has yet to comment on the incident.
This is not the first time the Chicago-born rapper has faced accusations of assault or battery. Last year, a female photographer sued West, claiming she was left “traumatized and humiliated” after he threw her phone away.
The incident, captured on camera by the photographer’s business partner, showed West approaching her car window after he and Censori were being followed. The woman also claimed that West gave her what she described as a “death stare.”
The legal implications for Kanye West, if found guilty of assault, could be significant. If Kanye is convicted of assault, he may receive a permanent criminal record, which can negatively impact various areas of his life, such as employment opportunities and personal relationships. Also, the court may impose monetary fines upon assault conviction.
