Actor Jonathan Majors is peeling back the layers of his past, sharing a deeply personal story of trauma and resilience in a raw interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The 35-year-old actor revealed he endured sexual abuse starting at age 9, a revelation that adds depth to his journey nearly two years after his high-profile assault conviction.

“I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9,” Majors disclosed. “From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f–ked up.”

With his father absent since he was 8, Majors recently found solace in a healing conversation with his mother, a pastor. “She apologized for not being able to protect me,” he shared.

“I’m like, ‘It’s not even an issue, Mom. I just want you to know. And now we can all get busy and continue to connect and grow and learn from it because it’s something that was in our family.’”

This vulnerability paints a fuller picture of Majors—not just as an actor, but as a Black man confronting his past and choosing to heal publicly. He emphasized the importance of accountability despite his trauma. “There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself,” he said.

That understanding is driving him to rewrite his narrative. “Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world. Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything,” he reflected. “None of those narratives is beneficial.” Instead, he’s choosing growth: “I’m gonna have a struggle, learn, metabolize, grow.”

In December 2023, Majors was convicted of assault and harassment in a split verdict tied to an incident with ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, who accused him of attacking her in a chauffeured car, resulting in minor injuries.

Though cleared on two charges, the jury found he caused injury unintentionally. He avoided jail, completing a domestic violence intervention program, and serving probation. Marvel Studios dropped him shortly after, cutting his role in the MCU—a blow he described as “a heartbreak like I’ve never experienced.”

The fallout continued with a civil lawsuit from Jabbari alleging assault, battery, defamation, and emotional distress, which was settled and dropped in November 2024.

Amid the storm, Majors got engaged to actress Meagan Good, who stood by him, alongside support from stars like Michael B. Jordan, Matthew McConaughey, and Whoopi Goldberg.
