There seems to be some uneasy calm among some family members following the death of veteran actor John Amos.
Shannon Amos, daughter of the former sitcom actor, says she learned about her father’s death through media reports.
Remembered for his role in the sitcom Good Times, the Emmy-nominated actor passed away at the age of 84. His son, K.C. Amos, reportedly confirmed the news, saying his father died of “natural causes” on August 21, in Los Angeles.
But in a sharp reaction to the incident, her daughter is suspecting foul play and believes the “truth will come out.”
In an Instagram post this week, she wrote: “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you.
“Someone was in the Emergency Room (ER) the night my father died and pretended to be his daughter. I’m his only daughter. We believe it was the woman [who also] poses as his publicist.”
Sources say there has been some sort of conflict between K.C. Amos and Shannon Amos, for years. In June 2023, Shannon claimed John Amos was “a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation” at the hands of her brother, but John denied the allegations.
Following the confirmation, some people have asked why the family did not inform the public until October, though they certainly needed some privacy to mourn their beloved dad.
John is survived by his daughter, Shannon, and son, K.C., who he had with his ex-wife, Noel Mickelson. The siblings were previously cited for “elder abuse” allegations, but multiple investigations were reportedly closed later due to a lack of evidence.
Apart from the sitcom Good Times, records indicate he earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the older version of Kunta Kinte in the 1977 ABC mini-series Roots.
He played a role in the film The West Wing as well as the 1988 comedy Coming to America, starring alongside Eddie Murphy. The veteran actor is also hailed for his role in the 2021 sequel Coming 2 America.
He had said in an interview that it was an honor to star in a second installation of the film Coming 2 America, and work alongside Eddie Murphy.
