Even though Jennifer Hudson and Common are gradually becoming one of the delightful black couples of Hollywood, their love story has always come as a surprise to many.

Following speculation about them being an item, Common confirmed their relationship on Hudson’s talk show in January.

“I’m in a relationship… with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life,” Common said on the talk show earlier this year. “She’s smart; she loves God; she has something real down-to-earth about her; she’s talented.”

This relationship is a happy place for me,” the rapper added. “Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy. So, I’m very grateful. I thank God each and every day, and I’m just letting God guide this relationship.”

Just as in any other individual’s relationship and while their chemistry is undeniable.

Jennifer admitted that there were some challenges when the two musical geniuses were working together in the studio.

She made the revelation during her recent appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

During the conversation, Jennifer shared her insight about making music with Common.

She stated: “I mean, we’re both very musical,” Hudson said. “Two Chicagoans and I were like, ‘Where’s the poetry and the storytelling in the holiday albums?’ And who better to do it than him? To do, like, spoken-word poetry for the holidays? And so that’s where the song came from.”

“He’s a bit bossy when it comes to being Common,” the Oscar winner explained.

She explained that Common and Rashid are two different people musically

He’s a musical genius, so it’s an honor to be able to learn from him, work for him, work with him, and on his album and my album,” she continued.

In this short period, Jennifer and Common have worked on several projects. Along with the “Almost Christmas” track on Jennifer Hudson’s The Gift of Love album, Hudson and Common appeared on “A GOD (There Is)” from Common and Pete Rock’s album The Auditorium Vol. 1.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Common has also shared how much he enjoyed working with Jennifer Hudson.

He recalled: “When I played it to musician friends, they were like, ‘Who is that singing?’ I’m like, ‘That’s Jennifer.”

“It doesn’t sound like things you’ve heard from her before,” he said. “I love that we were able to utilize her gifts in a new space. She brought it, man.”
