JAY-Z’s legal woes have intensified, with a new lawsuit adding to the already complex web of claims involving the rap icon, his legal team, and the accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.
The latest twist emerged when Jose Maldonado, a former client of Buzbee, filed a lawsuit in Harris County, Texas. The suit alleges that JAY-Z’s law firm, Quinn Emanuel, and Roc Nation conspired to target Buzbee’s former clients to file frivolous cases against him.
According to Maldonado’s filing, shadowy operatives offered Buzbee’s ex-clients up to $10,000 each to initiate lawsuits against his firm.
The allegations come amid a sexual assault case in which Buzbee is representing an anonymous woman accusing JAY-Z and Diddy of raping her after the 2000 Video Music Awards.
This lawsuit marks the latest chapter in a bitter legal feud. Last November, JAY-Z filed an extortion claim against Buzbee, while the attorney countered with lawsuits accusing both Roc Nation and Quinn Emanuel of misconduct.
Another former Buzbee client made similar allegations in a separate Harris County filing last month, painting a troubling picture of escalating hostilities between the parties.
Jay-Z moves to dismiss rape suit
Meanwhile, in the high-profile sexual assault case, JAY-Z recently secured a minor victory. On January 2, Judge Analisa Torres allowed his legal team to proceed with a motion to dismiss the case, which alleges he and Diddy raped a 13-year-old girl 25 years ago. The accuser, represented by Buzbee, has until the end of February to respond to the dismissal request.
JAY-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has argued that the lawsuit should be dismissed due to legal issues related to the time and location of the alleged incident.
While the rap mogul seeks to clear his name, Buzbee faces mounting scrutiny over his handling of the case, including accusations of failing to vet the claims properly.
