Rumi Carter, the six-year-old daughter of music icons Jay-Z and Beyoncé, has made history by becoming the youngest female artist to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The mother-daughter collaboration, Protector, from Beyoncé’s album Cowboy Carter debuted at No. 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album’s release saw a surge in its material on the chart, propelling Rumi to this unprecedented achievement at just six years.
Jay-Z’s daughter Rumi surpasses sister Blue Ivy’s Billboard record
This feat eclipses the record previously held by her older sister, Blue Ivy, who made her chart debut at seven. Blue Ivy’s collaboration with Beyoncé, Brown Skin Girl,” from the “Lion King: The Gift” album, landed on the chart in 2019.
However, Blue Ivy still holds the title of the youngest artist to appear on any Billboard chart. This was courtesy of her cameo on Jay-Z’s Glory, released under the name “B.I.C.” in 2012, just days after she was born. Glory peaked at No. 23 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 63 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Rumi’s charming request at the beginning of Protector, the fourth song on Beyoncé’s 27-track Cowboy Carter, adds innocence to the album. Her sweet voice asking, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby please?” is a heartwarming moment that fans have come to adore.
Beyoncé makes Billboard history with Cowboy Carter
Meanwhile, Beyoncé has made history with her new album, Cowboy Carter, as the album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums list.
Since the list’s inception in January 1964, the Halo hitmaker becomes the first black woman to hold the top spot.
Additionally, Beyoncé makes history by being the first female to simultaneously occupy the top three slots in the poll when three of the set’s tracks debut at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 on the Hot Country Tracks list.
