Rapper-turned-actor, Method Man, born Clifford Smith, has opened up about his lifelong battle with depression, claiming, “It never really goes away.”

While speaking in a recent interview with rapper, Fat Joe, on his new Starz series ‘Fat Joe Talks,’ Method Man opened up about mental health and much more.

Starting the segment, they spoke about the gut feeling you get when someone crosses your mind and you think to check up on them.

Method Man noted that “The point I’m trying to make is every now and then when you get a thought like, ‘Damn, I wonder what this person’s doing,’ act on it. Call them, see how they doing, or find some way to get in contact with them. It never hurts. You have no idea how much that could mean to them.”

The Wu-Tang Clan member went on to talk about his depression, referring to it as “certain sh*t” that he goes through.

He went on to say, “It never really goes away. You have, like I said, I have bouts with it and things.”

He continued to reveal that during one of his bouts, he received a heartwarming text message from a friend that made him feel much better — again echoing his point about acting upon that feeling of reaching out to someone to check on them because you never know if they really could use the check-up.

Method Man also indicated that he has a friend known as Dave, who presumably may be rapper Dave East, who played Method Man in the Hulu series,Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Method Man recalled, “…And Dave saw that, and he just sent me a text message, a beautiful text message… and it spoke to me, big time and all I could put was, ‘All of this,’ with a heart emoji. I don’t even get heart emojis, son, but yeah.”
