R&B singer Ashanti has paid tribute to Irv Gotti, the founder of Murder Inc., who passed recently. Many have been expecting her to speak about the producer’s death, as they have had a working relationship.
In a recent post, she praised the late record producer but acknowledged that they both had a complicated relationship at the time of his passing.

“I can’t believe things ended like this…and it makes me sad. We weren’t on the best terms the past few years but as I’ve always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that you’ve done for me.
“We made history and that will remain infinite. I’ve always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best,” she said.

“All the greatness and positive things that came far outweigh the dark and negative times,” she added.
The late producer had reportedly made allegations about his professional and personal relationship with Ashanti, which circulated in the media for years.
He had spoken about how he fell in love with Ashanti and what led to their split. But Ashanti had said the narrative was not true.

“It’s weird. It’s very weird when you know you’re lying and you just keep lying. That’s where it becomes a little scary and a little mental. I’m trying to figure out what made him even say that. Was I there? I’m confused. I don’t remember this at all,” the songstress was quoted at the time.
Irv Gotti passed on last week. He is credited for works with artists like Ja Rule, Ashanti, and DMX, particularly the hit track Always On Time by Ja Rule featuring Ashanti.

He is also known to have worked with A&R at Def Jam Records and contributed to DMX, Jay-Z, and Ja Rule joining the label.
Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their first child, Kareem, on July 18, 2024, and celebrated the happy moment together.

“His dad named him with a lot of pride…Having all of us in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time, I cried it was just so emotional and spiritual at the same time,” Ashanti stated at the time.
The Always On Time hitmaker posted photos of herself wearing disposable underwear, suggesting she had given birth, and listed some titles of her composition in the caption.
