Hip-hop star, Snoop Dogg, has opened up about his many years of friendship with music producer Dr. Dre, who he describes as “a big brother”.

The longtime collaborators spoke about their 30-year relationship in a recent interview in which Snoop said they both established a strong bond decades ago while doing business together.

“Dr. Dre has always been a big brother, a mentor. But he taught me professionalism as far as how to separate from the hood and how to get on a business venture, and how to just look forward and not really pay attention to what’s behind you,” the Talkin Loud composer told Capital XTRA radio.

According to Snoop, Dr. Dre has always had “a positive attitude and spirit” which he has emulated.

He added that the Drop It Like It’s Hot artist did not know how many albums he [Snoop Dogg] had made since he started music because Dr. Dre was always focused on “what’s next, what’s best.”

Snoop further described Dr. Dre as “a protector” who he “love being with him in the studio and in real life.” He also spoke about how he liked Dre taking “control” when they work together.

“I say that, and I really mean that, because outside of Dr. Dre, I’m like the boss; I’m the one who has to call the shots at creating…When I’m with him, I can just be an artist, I can just be Snoop Dogg,” he stated.

For his part, Dr Dre expressed excitement and noted he will do what it takes to sustain the long-standing relationship.

“It takes a massive amount of trust to be in this position to let somebody like Snoop and his calibre to trust me…I love being in that seat, and I love that he gives me that trust with his career, and I’m never going to let my bro down,” Dr. Dre stated.

The duo recently teamed up to launch Gin & Juice — a ready-to-drink canned cocktail inspired by Snoop’s 1994 single of the same name, produced by Dre.

The beverage marked their latest collaboration — decades after Snoop first earned recognition from featuring on Dre’s debut single Deep Cover in 1992, and other albums.

Dr. Dre produced Snoop’s 1993 debut album, Doggystyle, and have since worked together on many other projects, including the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show in Los Angeles.
