Tank is bringing his skills to the theatre after 25 years as a self-described General of R&B.

Dr. Durrell “Tank” Babbs Sr. is a seasoned actor who has starred in shows including VH1’s Born Again Virgin, HBO’s Togetherness, Lifetime’s Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Preacher’s Kid alongside LeToya Luckett, and BET’s The New Edition Story and The Bobby Brown Story.

For a brief 13-week engagement, the crooner will play Davis in Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen, marking his Broadway debut.

Alicia Keys’ life is partially depicted in Hell’s Kitchen. “There is no doubt that the city and my experiences with people inspired the characters.”

Brandon Victor Dixon, a Tony Award contender, will make his last appearance on March 9, and Tank will take his place.

According to a statement released by Tank, he stated that “Stepping onto the Broadway stage is a dream come true. “Music and acting have always been a part of my journey, and now, I get to bring them together in a whole new way. The energy of live theatre is unmatched, and I’m honoured to join this incredible cast and be part of telling this powerful story through Alicia Keys’ music. This transition is both thrilling and humbling, and I can’t wait to give audiences everything I’ve got!”

She told VIBE at the beginning of the play: “I believe that’s what makes it so rich and relatable when you visit. It feels so amazing to me that art can mimic life because it can take human experiences, foundations, emotions, relationships, and multi-layered, complex behaviours and weave them all together into stories that truly, truly resonate”.

In case you want tickets to watch the show, they are available on the Hell’s Kitchen official website, via Telecharge.com, and in person at the Shubert Theatre box office.
