Nigerian Afrobeats king, Davido, is hopeful about making the list when nominees for the 66th Grammys are announced later this year.
Following his recent project Unavailable and Sensational ft Chris Brown, the multi-talented artiste has reportedly submitted his Timeless album for consideration by the Recording Academy, which ended the First Round Voting early in October.
Timeless, released in March this year, is Davido’s fourth studio project, featuring top performers including Asake, The Cavemen Band, Angélique Kidjo, Fave, Musa Keys, and many others.
The Fall hitmaker displayed his versatility on the record which is primarily a combination of Amapiano, Afrobeats, Highlife, Afropop and other genres.
The 17-track project opens with the track, Over Dem which comes with an infectious beat and catchy chorus. It also has For The Road and Na Money — a high-energy collaboration with Angelique Kidjo.
Others are No Competition, a collaboration with YBNL recording artiste, Asake, while Unavailable features South African singer, Musa Keys. Champion Sound features South African producer, Focalistic while Kante features Nigerian singer, Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere known on stage as Fave.
The album which blends traditional Nigerian rhythms with trending musical elements of pop, shines light on Davido’s proficiency in working with artistes from different backgrounds.
The 66th edition of the Grammy Awards is scheduled to take place in February 2024. First-round voting ended Friday, October 20, 2023, and nominations are to be announced on November 10, 2023.
Three new categories: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording have been added to the 66th Edition.
Davido’s submission follows that of his fellow Nigerian, Olamide, who also has submitted Unruly for the 2024 Grammys to be considered Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album.
One-time Grammy Winner, Burna Boy, and Ghana’s Stonebwoy have reportedly done the same with I Told Them and 5th Dimension albums respectively.
Stonebwoy’s fifth studio album has gained traction across the world as he continues his 5th Dimension Europe Tour, pulling thousands of fans at his recent performance in Germany.
Davido, now a proud father of twins, also announced the “Timeless Tour” starting in Abuja, Nigeria on December 14, 2023, and expected to end on December 24, in Lagos.
In July, he performed at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and continued to the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, Canada. He is expected to headline the A.W.A.Y. Festival on November 23, 2023, which was postponed last year due to the death of his son.
