A documentary series about Oprah Winfrey’s life may not stream online anytime soon, and fans are wondering what exactly could be causing the hold-up.
Sources close to the subject say the former talk show host is adamant about the film going public, following a clash with the filmmaker and director, Kevin MacDonald.
She is reported to have bought the broadcast rights to the production in a bid to stop the documentary from going live.
Other accounts indicate that Oprah had asked the filmmaker to edit parts of the project before it aired but the director was not willing to do so. Although her team denies this claim, they told some outlets that “it wasn’t the right time to do a documentary.”
The Oprah Winfrey documentary was first mentioned in January 2021 and was planned to be presented in two parts. Following the latest development about the biopic being put on hold, some observers wonder if the television personality was afraid of letting sensitive information about her life get into the public domain.
“What is Oprah hiding…Oprah Winfrey shelled out a fortune to prevent a documentary release, sounds legit… money talks right… not the truth,” a social media user wrote.
Opera Winfrey recently endorsed Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and attracted criticism from some supporters of Donald Trump.
She made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in August and later announced that she would host the “Unite for America” virtual rally in support of Harris.
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. After graduating from college and working in the journalism industry, she became a household name as she hosted “The Oprah Winfrey Show” from September 1986 to May 2011.
Hailed as the “Queen of All Media,” she went on to build an empire worth $3 billion. In addition to being a two-time Emmy Award winner, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her role The Color Purple movie.
