The late D’wayne Wiggins was best known for his work as a founding member of the group, Tony! Toni! Toné!

Two days ago, D’wayne Wiggins’ family confirmed that he was alive after rumours about his declining health began popping up on social media on Tuesday.

Contrary to his death rumours, D’wayne’s family took to Instagram with a statement explaining that he’s dealing with an unspecified health issue but is still fighting.

“We wanted to share that D’Wayne Wiggins is experiencing medical complications.

He is working through it one day at a time. We know how beloved he is by so many, and we are grateful for your prayers and concern.

We also request that you respect the family’s privacy during this time,” the family wrote while sharing a picture of Wiggins.

Other Tony! Toni! Toné! members also spoke out about concerns for his health earlier this week.

Meanwhile, some social media users alleged that he was in hospice care, with others suggesting that he had already passed.

However, on Friday, March 7th, 2025, a statement was posted to his Instagram account by his family which stated that the legendary musician died in the early hours of the morning surrounded by his family.

The social media post also revealed D’wayne Wiggins’s illness indicating that he had been battling bladder cancer over the past year.

“D’Wayne’s life was incomparable, and his music and service impacted millions around the world, including in his hometown of Oakland, California.”

The Wiggins family went on to say:

“He was a guitarist, producer, composer, philanthropist, mentor, and founding member of Tony! Toni! Tone!

He was deeply passionate about providing artist development and mentorship to emerging young musicians, helping to shape the early careers of many.
