Toronto woke up to unsettling news on Tuesday, May 7, as reports of a shooting near the residence of globally acclaimed rapper Drake surfaced.
The incident occurred in the upscale Bridle Path neighborhood, where Drake’s luxurious “Embassy” mansion is located.
The Toronto Police Department confirmed the shooting and revealed that the victim, identified as Drake’s security guard, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. The suspect remains unidentified and is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle.
A photograph of the police sealing off the street outside Drake’s mansion has been circulating on social media, causing a stir among fans and the public. However, it is crucial to clarify that no evidence implicates the rapper in the shooting incident.
Interestingly, this incident coincides with an ongoing dispute between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. While some are speculating a possible link between the feud and the shooting, there is no substantiated evidence to support this theory at present.
The Toronto Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
The conflict between Kendrick Lamar and Drake which began in 2011 reignited in March 2024 when Lamar dissed Drake on the song “Like That”, rejecting the existence of a “Big Three” in hip hop, which included himself, Drake, and J. Cole. This led to a series of diss tracks, with allegations getting personal.
Despite the escalating tension, it’s important to note that this is a professional feud within the music industry, and there’s no evidence of any personal animosity outside of their musical careers.
