At the pre-inauguration rally on January 19, 2024, in Washington, D.C., President-elect Donald Trump dances to the song “Y.M.C.A.” alongside the original group, the Village People.
Showcasing his signature dance moves during the pre-inauguration rally, the 78-year-old businessman-turned-politician could not hide his joy as he celebrated his victory over Kamala Harris a night before being sworn in as the 47th U.S. president.

Trump, who is known to use the Village People’s 1978 hit Y.M.C.A., song at his campaign rallies danced and clapped as he jammed to the hit song as the group performed while the crowd cheered on.
In 2020, The Village People asked Trump to stop playing their songs at his campaign rallies. However, over time, they realized that the president genuinely loved the music and so they allowed him since he enjoyed it.
Some days before the pre-inaugural event, the Village People announced on Facebook that they had “accepted an invitation from President-Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President-Elect Trump.” The group added, “We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear; however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics. Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps unite the country after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”

Significantly, Willis noted that the track has skyrocketed in the charts and seen a surge in sales since he began featuring it in his event.
Amongst Sunday night performers was longtime Donald Trump supporter Kid Rock, who opened the event. Other performers included musician Nelly, actor Jon Voight, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, among others, who took the stage to offer congratulations.
After losing the 2024 election to President Joe Biden and serving only one term as president, Trump expressed his excitement as he chanted “We won. We won,” to the elated crowd. “I’m thrilled to be back with so many friends, supporters, and true American patriots on the eve of taking back our country. That’s what we’re going to do. Take back our country.”
