Following her stellar performance at Coachella 2024, Doja Cat has ascended to the pinnacle of Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
The California-born artist’s 2023 hit Agora Hills from her album Scarlet claimed the top spot on the chart on April 20. This achievement follows a significant 19% increase in weekly plays.
This is a landmark moment for the 28-year-old singer, marking her first No. 1 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. However, Doja Cat is no stranger to chart-topping success. She has previously dominated the Pop Airplay chart eight times with popular tracks such as Say So, and Kiss Me More, a collaboration with SZA. Before Agora Hills, her highest position on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart was No. 8, achieved by the Tyga-assisted Juicy in 2020.
Doja Cat’s rise to the top
Doja Cat’s rise to the top of the chart coincides with her headlining performance on the third and final night of Coachella 2024. During her set, she delighted fans by bringing out special guests 21 Savage, A$AP Rocky, and Teezo Touchdown for their respective collaborations. The latter two artists featured on the deluxe version of her latest album, Scarlet 2: CLAUDE, released late last month.
Scarlet is the fourth studio album by American rapper and singer Doja Cat1. Released on September 22, 2023, through Kemosabe and RCA Records, the album marked a significant shift in Doja Cat’s musical style.
How Rihanna Got SZA Frustrated By ‘Taking Her Song’
Meanwhile, SZA recalled in an interview how her track Consideration, originally recorded for her 2017 album Ctrl, was given to Rihanna.
According to SZA, she had not only recorded Consideration but had gone the extra mile by filming a music video for the track, fully gearing up for its release.
However, just days before the big reveal, Rihanna expressed her interest in the song for her own album, Anti. Negotiations unfolded behind the scenes, leaving SZA in the dark about the fate of her cherished creation.
