A new documentary highlighting the life of American singer Cyndi Lauper is set to premiere on June 4, 2024. A trailer for the project, titled Let The Canary Sing was released on YouTube on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
The film will delve into the career and legacy of the Time After Time singer using archival footage and interviews with the pop icon herself, and feature other notable names in music.
Directed by Alison Ellwood, the project, according to producers, will also highlight Cyndi Lauper’s impact as an activist in many circles. The official trailer generated some 24,000 views on YouTube in its first few hours.
It will first be available on the Paramount+ streaming platform in the United States and Canada, followed by release in the UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria on June 5, 2024.
“Over the years I’ve been asked to do a documentary about my life and
work, but it never felt like the right time until now. When I first met Alison Ellwood, I knew right away I could trust her to tell my story honestly, which was incredibly important to me, and she succeeded in that,” a statement attributed to Cyndi Lauper said.
Soundtracks featuring Cyndi Lauper’s biggest hits like Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Time After Time, True Colours and others are expected to feature on the documentary.
Cyndi Lauper is expected at a show at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday, June 26. She will also attend the Glastonbury Festival around the same period. The performance is said to be the American singer’s first UK solo concert in eight years.
Cyndi’s upcoming documentary is similar to that of legendary Celine Dion, who is also set to release a film documenting her journey with Stiff Person Syndrome.
The film title I Am: Céline Dion will be available to global viewers on June 25, 2024, and is expected to come out as a “raw and honest” narrative about the condition of the I’m Alive hitmaker.
It would “highlight the music that has guided [Céline Dion’s] life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit,” a statement, released in April, from Amazon MGM Studios said.
