Tashera Simmons, the ex-wife of DMX, has lost her legal battle for a share of the late rapper’s intellectual property.

A court ruling on April 7 sided with the rapper’s estate, denying Simmons’ claim that she was entitled to 50 percent of DMX’s copyrights, trademarks, and likeness rights.

Simmons, who was married to DMX for 16 years before their divorce in 2016, filed the lawsuit last year, arguing she was entitled to half of the assets tied to his career.

However, the judge ruled that the estate owns all of DMX’s intellectual property, including everything acquired during their marriage and any assets he had at the time of his death in 2021.

The couple’s divorce agreement mentioned intellectual property but did not clearly state that Simmons had a claim to DMX’s assets. Before his death, DMX made it clear that the divorce agreement only applied to royalties and not ownership of his catalog.

The judge also pointed out that Simmons had previously waived her right to claim the estate through a prior legal settlement.

Simmons’ legal team expressed disappointment with the ruling, arguing that it disregarded long-established legal principles. They maintained that both Simmons and their children were entitled to more under the divorce terms.

Simmons is said to be considering an appeal, though no formal action has been taken yet. Meanwhile, DMX’s estate, which is managed by his former fiancée Desiree Lindstrom and their daughter Sasha, welcomed the decision, believing it would help preserve DMX’s legacy.
