When Denzel Washington says that the movie he’s working on is the biggest he’s ever been on, you can believe him because he has one of the most illustrious careers in Hollywood and has starred in many big-budget pictures.
Ridley Scott is also renowned for his epic filmmaking, so it is not surprising that he is taking things further.
An online teaser video for the movie, which starred Denzel as the possible villain Macrinus, an arms dealer, was released last week. It included snippets from the new film as well as a brief interview with the actor.
According to Denzel Washington’s statement in the trailer, Gladiator II is the largest movie he has ever worked on. He also expressed amazement at how realistic the set buildings were.
“I think this is the biggest film I’ve been on. They built the Colosseum! It’s a ride; it’s a spectacle. Everywhere you turn, you feel like you’re in that world, and I love that,”said Washington.
In Gladiator 2, Denzel Washington plays an arms dealer named Macrinus, who appears to have some power throughout the movie’s plot.
The movie is a follow-up to the acclaimed Russell Crowe picture from 2000, and it follows Lucius as he battles his way back into the Colosseum to try and reclaim Rome from its conquerors.
Paul Mescal plays Lucius in this movie, replacing Spencer Treat Clark, who portrayed the character as a young man in the previous picture.
This highly anticipated sequel is set to hit theaters on November 22 in the United States
Gladiator II will also star Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Joseph Quinn.
Ridley Scott returns to direct and co-produce, with David Scarpa writing the screenplay from a story he wrote with Peter Craig.
Given the substantial budget, the movie must do quite well at the box office to be deemed a blockbuster hit.
It goes without saying that there is a lot of anticipation for this movie, and the good news and trailers have raised the stakes even higher.
