American actor Denzel Washington has confirmed that he’ll be returning to star in “The Equalizer” for two more sequels.

Equalizer is a Sony Pictures film directed by Antoine Fuqua which kicked off in 2014, with the third and last installment released in 2023.

The 69-year-old disclosed in the winter 2024 latest cover interview with Esquire magazine that he isn’t done with the vigilante action-thriller franchise.

“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing 4 and 5,” Washington noted.

His revelation comes as he prepares for the release of his latest movie, Gladiator 2.

Which features the beloved actor in a key role as Macrinus alongside his Equalizer 2 co-star, Pedro Pascal.

He stated that Sony Pictures has gotten him to agree to both “The Equalizer 4” and “The Equalizer 5.”

Denzel Washington went on to say, “People are excited about it. But I’ve got to realize that the Equalizer films are for me too because they are for the people. They want me to get the bad guys. And I say, ‘Okay, I’ll get them. Just wait right there; I’ll be right back!’

Denzel starred as Robert McCall, a retired government assassin-turned-vigilante, in all three Equalizer films.

It’s, however, unclear at the moment if Fuqua will be back in the director’s chair or just how soon these films will get underway.

Denzel recently teased a role in some upcoming projects, including “Black Panther 3,” which has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.

With Denzel in the picture, it therefore doesn’t matter who ends up directing the two new films.

The first sequel that Washington starred in proved to be a great decision because it turned out to be a hit.

The Equalizer 3” cemented it as arguably the most consistent franchise in history, with all three movies making $190 million at the box office against similar budgets.
