Former En Vogue and Lucy Pearl singer Dawn Robinson is pushing back against comments made by producer Jermaine Dupri, who suggested she “chose” to live in her car and questioned her having an assistant amid her unconventional living situation.

Robinson sent shockwaves through social media recently when she revealed she’s been residing in her car for the past three years. The disclosure left fans reeling, with many assuming she was struggling and in need of support.

However, the singer later clarified that her circumstances weren’t as dire as perceived. Before she could fully set the record straight, offers of help poured in, including one from her ex-husband, Andre Allen.

Allen, married to Robinson from 2003 to 2010, told TMZ Hip Hop he’s eager to assist his former spouse despite their turbulent past.

Now engaged and thriving outside the music industry, Allen claimed he’s earning more than ever and has even lent money to prominent figures who’ve hit hard times.

He proposed a job for Robinson with Hilton Brands, touting benefits like immediate medical coverage and paid time off to balance her career. “I don’t want her to see the same fate as others I’ve helped,” he said, noting he’d pitched the idea before but now hopes she’ll reconsider.

Meanwhile, Jermaine Dupri weighed in during an Instagram Live, asserting that Robinson’s car-living was a “choice” and expressing skepticism about her having an assistant in such circumstances. The remarks didn’t sit well with the singer, who swiftly responded to fans: “He doesn’t know me, so he’s a non-factor. I stay happy.”

She added, “Crazy thing is, I never asked him or ANYONE for money lol! Some people just need attention,” emphasizing her independence and dismissing any need for pity. “There’s nothing to sympathize about, but thanks for ALL the love,” she concluded.

Robinson doubled down on her stance during an appearance on Angela Yee’s Way Up radio show, where she again addressed Dupri and other critics.
