Grammy-nominated Afrobeats artiste Davido has reiterated his undeniable impact on the Afrobeats genre, emphasizing his place as one of those behind the promotion of the Afrobeats genre on the planet.

Davido is widely regarded as one of the big three in the genre, alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid.

While speaking in the latest issue of TheBeatJuice magazine, Davido boasted that the history of the Afrobeats genre is incomplete without mentioning his name.

This declaration comes as he gears up for the release of his new album, ‘5ive,’ coming March 2025.

In an Instagram post promoting the upcoming album, Davido wrote, “Afrobeats can’t be brought up without my name. Impossible.”

It’s not surprising for Davido to claim his spot, as he is widely recognized and celebrated for his international success.

The Unavailable singer has been instrumental in catapulting Afrobeats to its current global recognition, and his collaboration with international artists has helped bridge the gap between Afrobeats and global music.

On the subject of the Afrobeats genre, the singer recently made an appearance on an episode of the Business Untitled Podcast, where he discredited the categorization of all African musicians as Afrobeats artistes regardless of their musical styles.

He clarified that he was not offended by it but revealed he rather identified as an “afro-fusion” artiste.

“I don’t get offended when we’ve been categorized as Afrobeats. I mean, we need a genre. It could be R&B or Afropop. I call my music Afrofusion, but I’m not big on ‘O put Afrofusion on my song.’ I know how long it took for African music to become mainstream”.

His latest single, Funds, is already generating buzz online.
