Davido Crowned African Artiste Of The Year At Telecel Ghana Music Awards

Afrobeats superstar, Davido, had something to celebrate at the just-ended 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards as he was crowned African Artiste of the Year. He was in the same category as Rema, Asake, Burna Boy, Tyla, and Jzyno.

The Aye crooner was not on stage to pick the award but expressed appreciation on social media by sharing a post from the award organizers.

The award ceremony held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Accra, was a celebration of authentic African music with engaging stage appearances from trendy acts like King Promise and Stonebwoy.

At the end of proceedings, Stonebwoy, the Manodzi hitmaker emerged Artiste of the Year and also grabbed five other plaques including Songwriter of the Year, Best International Collaboration, and Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

Terminator hitmaker King Promise was not left out as he took home Afropop Song of the Year, Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.

Many fans have since congratulated Davido, for his relentless contribution to African music. The singer-songwriter is yet to release his fifth studio album after a successful journey with his 2023 Timeless Album

In March this year, he gave a hit about the untitled album which he said was 100% complete. Sources close to the singer said the album consists of 15 tracks and features at least six guest artistes.

The 17-track Timeless album, released in 2023, was nominated at the 66th Grammy Awards, and described by industry players as one of Davido’s special projects. It topped Spotify’s charts as the 2023 most streamed album in sub-Saharan Africa.

Billboard, announcing the best albums of the year 2023, described Timeless as “one of the best bodies of work” in Davido’s career, “calling it “a triumph and a landmark album in the global explosion of Afrobeats.”
