First Lady Melania Trump made a glamorous appearance at her husband’s inauguration early this week, but some critics are not too impressed with her outfit.

Attending the inauguration on January 20, she wore a dark navy coat and a matching American designer skirt. Her navy blue hat with white stripes also stood out.

Some fashionistas, however, think her style was in sharp contrast to her husband Donald Trump‘s simple black suit and tie.

Some people thought her all-black outfit did not reflect the happy mood of the ceremony.

“Looks like they are going to a funeral. RIP America,” an observer wrote on Instagram. “Melanie is in mourning just like the rest of us…she looks miserable as usual,” another person said.

Another user on X (formerly Twitter) compared her outfit to the Hamburglar [a character created by McDonald’s who wears a black and white striped outfit, a mask, and a wide hat while stealing burgers].

Others who admired her style said it was appropriate as Melania looked “unassuming” in the attire. Nonetheless, some people felt the hat hid her face too much.

The fashion police said Melania is known for making fashion statements with her luxurious outfits; that is why the choice to wear a dark outfit was somewhat puzzling.

Many prominent guests attended the presidential inauguration, but the guest did not include former first lady Michelle Obama, who had early on announced her absence at the event.

Insider info about her absence came days after she made headlines for missing former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral.
