Black Country artistes are riding along with Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album, which is raging fire on Spotify, and are racking up streams for their projects as well.
In the week following Cowboy Carter’s release, the number of people who have listened to black Country artistes like Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, and Shaboozey for the first time has increased.
The ‘Beyoncé effect’ wasn’t limited to new listeners; in the last week, Spotify’s catalog listening for up-and-coming acts significantly increased.
Since the project’s release, Beyoncé has reportedly seen a 395 percent increase in catalog listening, in addition to an increase in first-time listeners.
This year, Cowboy Carter broke the record for the most albums streamed in a single day on Spotify. The album’s twenty-three tracks made their Spotify debut on the U.S. Top 50 chart.
Beyoncé’s rendition of Dolly Parton’s Jolene, to which she added some new lyrics, peaked at No.3
With hits 16 Carriages and Texas Hold ‘Em, Queen Bey became the first black woman to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart for all genres as well as the Hot Country Songs chart.
Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Willie Nelson, Rumi Carter, and Linda Martell are among the other guests on the album.
Spotify’s lead for artiste partnerships and R&B, NyAsia Burris, in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter indicated that: “it’s incredibly encouraging to see this kind of impact coming out of Cowboy Carter. This not only demonstrates the strength of the Spotify ecosystem and how it promotes discovery, but it also amply illustrates Beyoncé’s immense influence. The album’s ability to spark a cultural movement and elevate black creators to new heights of visibility is evident in the numbers. We have only been able to observe the project’s true long-term effects for three days now that it has been released.”
