Colman Domingo is going to make waves in 2024, as seen by his planned ventures. Based on the information that is currently available, he is set to play two renowned men in two future landmark biopics.

Colman Domingo who is fast rising to the top of Hollywood, was previously in the news when he recounted how he lost a position because of his dark skin tone.

The Color Purple and Rustin star, who is Afro-Latino and gay, is making waves in a field that desperately needs more diverse representation. This is especially true given that he is the second openly gay man to be nominated for an Oscar this year for playing a gay character.

Well, chances come his way more frequently and have catapulted his Hollywood fame as he’s clearly at the top of his acting game based on his most recent ventures.

It was revealed on Thursday that Domingo will play Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film Michael.

Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop” will be the main subject of the film. Domingo would play Jackson’s father Joe in the biopic.

Michael, which is scheduled for release on April 10, 2025, stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar in the title role and chronicles the music icon’s quick ascent to popularity.

Although he was a performer in his own right, Joe Jackson is most recognized for having overseen the careers of his extraordinarily gifted children, who include his sons in the Jackson 5 and his daughters Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet during their solo successes in the 1960s and 1970s.

It was revealed that same day that Domingo would not only play renowned crooner Nat King Cole in his biography, but he would also co-write and direct a film for the first time.

Domingo disclosed this in an interview on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast.

“I’ve been working on it quietly for a few years. It’s something I’m looking forward to putting together with some great partners.”

Before taking on the role of the music legend at the Geffen Playhouse, Colman Domingo collaborated with Patricia McGregor on the play Lights Out: Nat ‘King’ Cole.

Beginning in the 1930s, Cole’s career as a jazz pianist, vocalist, and actor lasted three decades and brought him many honors. With hits like Unforgettable, Smile, and Let There Be Love, Cole continued to grace the Billboard charts and had a significant impact on the development of jazz, pop, and R&B.

Even though Cole and Jackson made their names in the music business, their kids will always carry on their heritage. Jackson was obligated to oversee his well-known kids, and Cole’s daughter Natalie followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming a successful, award-winning performer.

Colman Domingo’s career trajectory indicates that he will be highly booked and occupied for the foreseeable future, particularly considering Marvel is considering him to take Jonathan Majors’ spot as big bad Kang.

Domingo and Ayo Edebiri are leading the pack in terms of NAACP Image Award nominations, which is a remarkable accomplishment for two Black queer performers.

For his work, Domingo has also received nominations for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics Choice, and SAG awards. He most recently appeared as Mister in the musical film The Color Purple.
