Ever since Jonathan Majors lost the role as Kang the Conqueror, there have been rumors of some high-profile Hollywood stars gunning for the role.
Among the rumored names is “Sing Sing” star Colman Domingo.
During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the award-winning movie star addressed the speculation that he was in talks to take over the role of Kang the Conqueror.
While Colman confirmed that he had met with the network, he made it clear his discussions were not about Jonathan’s former role.
“When I saw my name circulating online in connection to Kang, I had to check with my team. I asked, ‘Are there conversations happening that I don’t know about?’ And they told me no.”
He added, “I literally called up my team and said, ‘Are you guys having conversations that I have no idea about?’ And they said no. ‘Are you guys being cagey or what?’ They weren’t.”
“There had been conversations of me coming into Marvel in some way, so we did follow up with a sit-down meeting with the heads of Marvel. I did that.”
“We talked openly about the landscape of Marvel and the Kang rumors,” adding, “I am all about energy.
I want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy. I want a role to be mine, whatever I develop.
Something didn’t feel right to me about replacing someone. I want to build something from the ground up that is my own.”
Jonathan Majors was originally slated to lead the next phase of the MCU as Kang after his appearance in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie before Disney cut ties with him in December 2023 after his conviction for assault and harassment.
With his departure, fans speculated about a possible recast – a rumor that neither Disney nor Marvel has either confirmed or denied.
While the Kang rumors surrounding Colman’s name may be put to rest, clarifying that his meeting with Marvel took place later than many assumed and was not focused on replacing Jonathan.
The actor has, however, hinted that his Marvel journey isn’t over just yet.
