Chris Rock’s brother, Tony Rock, is not holding back on his opinion of Will Smith’s music.
On one of the tracks from the album, Will Smith raps about the Oscars slap incident, which took place three years ago.
“I heard he down bad, I heard he won the Oscar, but he had to give it back / And you know they only made him do that sh*t because he’s Black,” he rapped on “Int. Barbershop – Day.”
On “You Lookin For Me?” he rapped, “Took a lot, I’m back on top, y’all gon’ havе to get acclimated / Won’t stop, my sh*t still hot evеn though I won’t get nominated.”
Perhaps, when someone slaps your family member on national television, it is sensible to believe you will never give that person credit publicly ever again.
According to TMZ, they caught up with Chris Rock to get his take on Will Smith’s new album and the 50-year-old comedian admitted he had not listened to the album and didn’t plan to, but he knew enough to slam it due to the fact he believes Smith used The Oscars to draw attention to his new music.
“Everybody keeps telling me to stop talking about [The Oscars] but then he f**king puts it on a song,” he added. “So that gives me leeway to talk about it again. Album’s trash. I’m just assuming. I haven’t listened to it. I refuse to listen to it. This album is probably sh*tty as f**k because I haven’t heard anything about it other than ‘Oh, he addresses your brother.’ If that’s the only selling point, that’s a sh*tty album
This is not the first time that Tony has come to the defense of his brother. During a set at the Funny Bone in Virginia, Tony spoke of the incident on stage.
“I have to get Will Smith. Oh yeah. Y’all thought that shit was fucking over? That shit ain’t fucking over. I’m just laying low right now…The Oscars are right around the corner, we ain’t forget. Motherfucker fucking hit my brother,” Tony said. “Don’t nobody hit my brother but me. And even I got to clear that shit with mommy first
Tony also recalled how he met with his brother two days after the incident, stating:
“First order of business: ‘Are you okay?’” he went on. “‘Yeah, man, I got slapped.’ ‘Yeah, you did, yeah.’ I said, ‘Second: N***a, you have not been out the hood that long that you forgot how to slide on a motherfucker.’ … He stood there like a fucking lawn jockey.“
