Grammy-nominated “Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check” rapper Busta Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor George Smith Jr., turned himself in at Brooklyn‘s 84th precinct on January 14, 2024.
He was charged with third-degree assault and given a desk appearance ticket, which requires him to make an appearance in criminal court for an arraignment.
The investigation is currently underway, per a New York Police Department spokesperson, and Busta Rhymes is expected to have his day in court soon.

Third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, involves intentionally inflicting physical injury, recklessly causing physical injury, or causing physical injury with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.
This charge relates to an assault that took place on January 10th in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn. The incident occurred near the corner of Jay and Front Streets and involved a 50-year-old individual who was punched multiple times following a verbal argument.
“According to the statement, the victim sustained swelling to the left side of their face. Medical personnel transported them to NYC Health and Hospitals/Woodhull, where they were reported to be in stable condition.”

The 52-year-old rapper is set to appear in court on February 3, 2025, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
This is not the first time he has been charged with assault. In 2015, he was charged with second-degree assault for allegedly throwing a cardboard container of protein drink at a gym employee in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.
In 2023, actor Marlon Wayans and producer Swizz Beatz presented legendary rapper Busta Rhymes with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards for his exceptional contributions to hip hop and its cultural impact.

The Break Ya Neck hitmaker was scheduled to embark on a 24-date Blockbuster Tour in 2024, but it was canceled a week before it was set to kick off. No further information about the tour has been released by the rapper or his management.
