Beyoncé has seen and done it all when it comes to entertainment. From musical biopics to box-office thrillers, Beyoncé has left her mark and it would be difficult to see another entertainer deliver such class.

From 2001 until 2009 the actress can be described as having given her best in both worlds – movies and music. Beyoncé’s movie highlights that she is an all-around diva who does seem to know what to sing about or the perfect role to play in a movie that brings out her talent.

With the help of her screen partners such as Idris Elba, Cuba Gooding Jr., Mekhi Phifer, Yasmin Bey, Joy Bryant, Rah Digga, Ali Larter, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Steve Martin, and Mike Myers, the Houston native has been able to showcase that she can connect to varying audiences and spotlight her range of talent.

Queen Bey is a true entertainer; from her mind-blowing performances at the Renaissance World Tour celebrating her 42nd birthday, she sure knows how to put on a show as an all-round Diva. Let us explore eight movies Beyoncé has starred in that you may not know about.

Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

In this hilarious comedy, Bey starred as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember, which is widely considered to be a mash-up of two famous 1970s film characters: Foxy Brown and Cleopatra. She and Austin Powers team up to stop the evil Goldmember. The third film in Mike Myers’s Austin Powers series follows Dr. Evil’s plan to travel back in time to 1975 and partner with “Goldmember,” a rich dude sans genitalia following a “smelting accident,” to achieve world dominance.

The Fighting Temptations (2003)

The Fighting Temptations follows Darrin Hill (Cuba Gooding Jr.) as he returns to his hometown to revive a church choir in the hopes of winning a gospel competition. Beyoncé plays a nightclub singer called Lily – Hill’s childhood friend and budding love interest known across town for her voice but ostracized for working as a nightclub singer and having a child out of wedlock.

The Pink Panther (2006)

In this comedy, Beyoncé stars alongside Steve Martin as a pop star named Xania. She also ends up being the prime suspect in the murder mystery. Beyoncé plays a pop star in love with a fancy French soccer coach who is killed at the start of the movie, kicking off the inspector’s 93-minute investigation.

Dreamgirls (2006)

“We are the dreamgirls!” In this classic musical drama, Beyoncé plays a member of a girl group in the ’60s, loosely based on The Supremes. The movie follows their rise to fame and the struggles they face to get to the top.

Obsessed (2009)

In this movie, Beyoncé plays a successful businesswoman whose life is turned upside down when a temporary member of staff becomes obsessed with her. It’s a thrilling movie full of twists and turns.

Epic

Beyoncé voiced the character Queen Tara – a Mother Nature-esque queen of the forest – in an animated fantasy film based on a 1996 children’s book, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. The story follows a shrunken teenager who explores a woodland kingdom inhabited by bugs.

Dreamgirls

2006 was a busy year for Bey! Dreamgirls premiered in December as a screen adaptation of the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name. The story follows the history of Motown Records and The Supremes, a label and supergroup that changed the music industry forever. In the Oscar-nominated film, Beyoncé plays Deena Jones, a fictionalized version of the one and only Diana Ross.

Cadillac Records

Another musical biopic came out in 2008, this time starring Beyoncé as jazz icon Etta James. Cadillac Records follows the life of influential music executive, Leonard Chess, and the artistes who shaped music in 1950. Cadillac Records also stars Adrien Brody as Chess, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, and Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters.
