Queen of Afrobeats Ayra Starr’s Commas has been doing exceptionally well, weeks after its premiere, and recently attained another good standing among the list of Afrobeats songs so far released in 2024.

The song has currently accumulated 10 million streams on Spotify in just 4 weeks of release, making it the only Nigerian song to have attained that milestone yet in 2024, according to Spotify Data (a random monitoring platform).

In the second week of February, Commas had reached No. 6 on the United States Billboard Afrobeat Chart, aside from massive endorsements in the Gambia and her home country, Nigeria.

The official video for the song had reached a little over three million views on YouTube, as of February 13, 2024, in addition to compelling reviews on other platforms.

Commas is a happy-sounding song in which the Rush hitmaker sings about trusting in God and making steady progress, obviously, in her career. The new release adds to the rich discography of Mavins Record signees.

It was her maiden single for 2024, which arrived days ahead of the 66th Grammys, for which she secured her first nomination but was unsuccessful.

The talented singer teased fans early on with excerpts of Commas on her X (Twitter) page, which eventually turned out to a one of the most refreshing Afrobeats sounds available at the moment. Fans were already in love with Commas even before the official sound and the visuals were released.

Nicknamed Celestial Being, she is admired for her work rate and soothing repertoire. In a recent Billboard interview, she spoke about her childhood dream of becoming a teenage star.

She highlighted aspects of her life and joked about how her parents have often “blackmailed” her with music since childhood.

The 21-year-old, who hails from the Benin Republic, explained that she was not willing to move to Lagos, but she finally decided to relocate when her mother said the Nigerian city was a good place to pursue music.
