Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known by the stage name Ayra Starr, has been added to Spotify’s EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global programs for May 2024.
This initiative promotes female musicians by providing them with a worldwide stage via collaborations, content hubs, and playlists.
Ayra Starr becomes the second African singer, after Tiwa Savage of Nigeria, to have both titles of Spotify EQUAL Africa and Global Artiste.
This is the second time she is participating in the artiste development program, which was launched in November 2021 with the goal of advancing gender parity in music.
The artiste expressed her gratitude after being named a Spotify EQUAL ambassador.
Ayra Starr stated that being able to represent African women in general and women in Afrobeats specifically meant a great deal.
She also said, that nowadays, there are a ton of strong female artistes, sound engineers, and behind-the-scenes workers in the music industry.
Spotify Equal is doing a fantastic job of showcasing all of these amazing women.
Monica Kemoli-Savanne, Spotify’s senior artiste and label partnerships manager for sub-Saharan Africa stated that:

Monica Kemoli-Savanne continued by saying that seeing the development of female artistes who are also influencing future generations has been an amazing development.
Ayra Starr is best known for songs like Bloody Samaritan, Sability, Rush, Rhythm & Blues, Commas, and Bad Vibes, featuring Seyi Vibes.
